About Sail4Life

‘Sail 4 Life Limited’ aims to actively engage both survivors of cancer and those who have recently completed treatment, in the sport of sailing.

Cancer and its treatment can have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of those affected. Many individuals endure months or years of treatment, often resulting in ongoing physical and psychological challenges. These effects can diminish personal confidence, strain social connections, and contribute to feelings of isolation during recovery. For many cancer survivors, the journey toward healing can be both physically and emotionally isolating.

Unfortunately, many of these challenges do not end with the completion of treatment. Instead, they can persist well into recovery and, in some cases, intensify over time as individuals face prolonged physical limitations, emotional strain, and uncertainty about the future.

By bringing individuals together in a safe and supportive environment to regularly participate in a shared physical and adventurous activity, Sail 4 Life fosters connection, trust, and mutual encouragement. Through cooperation, teamwork, and shared experience, the program supports participants in rebuilding confidence, restoring a sense of belonging, and nurturing both physical and emotional wellbeing following cancer treatment and recovery.

My name is Peter Rechenberg, I am the founder of Sail4Life limited, and I'm committed to helping those recovering from cancer build a new & healthy way of life.

Peter is a life-long sailor and cancer survivor.

His sailing career has involved high-performance dinghies and Olympic classes, as well as a variety of keelboat classes and offshore ocean races. He has competed in numerous state and national championships and represented both Australia and New Zealand international.

Over His decades of involvement, He has developed a deep and enduring passion for all aspects of the sport of sailing. This expertise and enthusiasm form the key foundation for the programs Sail4Life seeks to deliver.

In 2023, Peter began experiencing health issues that led to eighteen months of tests and worsening symptoms. In early 2025, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The condition was detected early, and treatment began immediately, with a strong prognosis for recovery.

Throughout this time, Peter’s partner of twenty years and their sixteen-year-old daughter provided unwavering support. It was during this period of reflection and recovery that his partner suggested the idea of establishing a charitable organisation to assist people affected by cancer, as Peter looked to rebuild his own life.

During his treatment, Peter met many others at different stages of their cancer journeys. He became acutely aware of the ongoing challenges faced by survivors after treatment ends, including physical, emotional, and social impacts, uncertainty about the future, and a sense of isolation.

These experiences, combined with Peter’s lifelong expertise and passion for sailing, inspired the establishment of Sail4Life Limited. The charity aims to assist people affected by cancer rebuild their lives in a positive and healthy way through meaningful engagement, physical activity, and social connection, supporting participants to regain confidence, wellbeing, and a sense of purpose following treatment.

Testimonials

“I applaud and support what Peter Rechenberg is setting out to create with Sail4Life. Through his own personal journey and hardship Peter has learnt about the restorative powers of taking on adventures, new activities and the learning of new skills, whilst interacting with new communities and new friends. It is precisely at these challenging moments in life that people need programs like Sail4Life the most.
